Our Inheritance

Judges 11-12; Psalms 50; 2 Corinthians 1

“Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior…’You are not going to get any inheritance in our family,’ they [his brothers] said…Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah…Then Jephthah went over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into his hands.”

Judges 11:1, 2, 29, 32

Jephthah was rejected by his family. They would not give him an inheritance; but, Jephthah was anointed by the Spirit of the Lord to receive a greater inheritance.

Which inheritance would we rather receive, our family’s or the Lord’s?

When we live for an earthly inheritance, it is one we will not take it with us into eternity; however, living for the Lord’s inheritance will cost us. We are called to suffer, both for the sake of the Gospel and for Christ’s kingdom. We are called to stand firm in faith and resist the enemy of our souls. Too many people hope for their inheritance without fighting for it and without having faith to receive it.

Which inheritance are we living and fighting for today?

“Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance…” (Psalm 2:8).

“Lord Jesus, I seek first your kingdom, your righteousness, and your inheritance, for your glory.”
