Remember Mercy

 Habakkuk 1-3; John 8

“Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.”

Habakkuk 3:2

“…’Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin.’”

John 8:11

God’s judgments of sin are remembered throughout history including the Israelite deliverance out of Egypt, the destruction of Sodom, and the destruction of Babylon. More amazing are the stories of God’s deeds of mercy: the widow of Zarephath whose food did not run out in famine and whose son was raised from the dead and the healing of Naaman, the Syrian commander, of his leprosy. Countless numbers of people throughout history can testify to God’s saving, healing, and delivering power. The woman caught in adultery and brought to Jesus for judgment anticipated stoning. Instead, Jesus exposed the sin of her accusers and extended mercy to the woman. God is at work throughout the world today, judging sin and extending his mercy.

In faith and worship, will we respond to his work in our lives?

“Lord God, thank you for your mercy toward me, for your glory.”
