Faith and Love in Prayer

Numbers 34-36; Mark 11

“’Have faith in God,’ Jesus answered. ‘I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.. And when you stand praying; if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Mark 11:22-25

Prayer is not a religious ritual or duty that gains God’s favor; prayer is the language in a relationship with God. Our faith is not in the eloquence or strength of a prayer, but rather, in the Person to whom we are praying and whose Word we are listening to. Our unforgiveness toward others affects God’s forgiveness of us.

Why?

Because God’s relationship with us is based on his grace in Christ; his children give evidence they know their Father’s love by showing that same grace and love to others. Faith and love mark prayer that is God-birthed.

Lord God, my faith and love are from you and in you, for your glory.”
