Kingdom Authority and Compassion
Deuteronomy 10-12; Mark 16
“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt.”
Deuteronomy 10:17-19
This amazing combination of both great authority and great compassion mark the nature of God and his kingdom-influence. God is above all the fallen principalities and powers. His people are now seated with Christ in heavenly places, above the powers. We, too, have authority over unclean spirits and the schemes of the enemy. This authority is matched by great compassion for the weakest in society, the refugee, the orphan, and the widow. When we love the weakest in society, we, too, demonstrate we are children of our Father in heaven. This is our ‘kingdom-gospel-witness’ that we have been liberated from the power of sin and all its traumatic efforts; we are now freedom-fighters in this world.
Are we demonstrating this kingdom-gospel?
“Lord Jesus, you are my clearest picture of the Father’s compassion and authority. Make me like you, for your glory.”
