“Who Am I?”
2 Samuel 7; 1 Chronicles 17; Psalms. 2; Matthew 20
“‘Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family that you have brought me this far?...Is this your usual way of dealing with man?...For the sake of your word and according to your will you have done this great thing, and made it known to your servant.’”
2 Samuel 7:18-21
David responded to God’s promises with great humility. He recognized God’s sovereignty. David acknowledged that God’s word and will were greater than his own desires or plans.
What room is there for us to respond to God’s promises to us with presumption?
Why would we claim promises in God’s word without the same humility, and acknowledge that God’s word and will supersede our personal plans or desires?
We have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and by his death for us. We have been given a new name and a place in God’s kingdom family. We have been given God’s “very great and precious promises,” (2 Peter 1:4). With all these gifts we are grateful and live by faith with humility. We are not our own, we were bought with a price.
“Lord Jesus, who am I that I should experience your great love and saving power? Thank you!”
