All-in Disciples

Numbers 28-29; Mark 8

“’…If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?’”

Mark 8:34-36

Is the Gospel worth the price of our lives?

Jesus believed it was. Jesus’ call was for his disciples to first experience the Gospel’s transforming power; then, we die to self and surrender our sin and our will to God, and share this Gospel, regardless of the cost.

Are we trying to follow Jesus any other way?

When we determine what it means to follow Jesus by looking at the lives and examples of those around us, we are no longer disciples of Christ, but disciples of the Church. While this definition might make us feel good, it won’t transform us! Discipleship comes through laying down our life at the feet of Jesus, surrendering all, repenting for our sin and self-will, and following Jesus in daily life.

Are we all in?

“Lord Jesus, I offer all I am to you in exchange for all you are, for your glory.”
