Listening in Love
Numbers 30-31; Mark 9
“Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: ‘This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!’”
Mark 9:7
What is the word most frequently spoken to us by our Father in heaven?
In the two instances in the gospels where the Father speaks in an audible voice to his Son, he emphasizes his love for Jesus. If we are God’s son or daughter, he would want us to hear the same truth, “I love you”!
When was the last time we heard the Spirit saying those words to us from our Father?
Any thoughts which are condemning, fearful, shameful, prideful, or spoken without love don’t come from our Father. Even in discipline our Father loves us. His desire is that we listen to Jesus and learn from Jesus. In the same way that Jesus learned obedience in love for his Father, we, too, must learn to listen and obey. Listening to the Word and obeying brings life.
“Lord Jesus, my heart is open to your living Word and your love. Thank you for opening a relationship with the Father for me. Counsel and guide me in your ways, for your glory.”
