Unsettled
Judges 17-18; Psalms 89; 2 Corinthians 3
“In those days Israel had no king. And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking a place of their own where they might settle, because they had not yet come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.”
Judges 18:1
The unwillingness of the tribe of Dan to confront the giants along the coastal plain caused them to become restless and lawless. They were not settled, and this unsettledness led them to idolatry and rebellion against God. The allotted inheritance for the Danites was the coastal plain. If they had accepted this, they could have aligned themselves with other Israelite tribes and fought for one another’s inheritance in stronger numbers. However, they chose to replace God’s inheritance with their own.
In what ways have we become unsettled in our walk with God?
Followers of Christ today can also abandon the hard work of possessing their kingdom inheritance, leading them to abandon their spouses and their faith community, and look for a better inheritance. The tribe of Dan is a reminder that this path will not be blessed.
“Lord God, you are my King. I choose your inheritance for my life, regardless of the cost, for your glory.”
