Nothing Alone

 Nahum 1-3; John 5

“’…the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.’…’I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.’”

John 5:19, 20, 30

Each day, Jesus did what he saw his Father doing. Jesus was a disciple of his Father and he lived to please him. This rather simple approach to discipleship guided Jesus as he lived with his family for thirty years and then for three years of very active and public ministry.

Why didn’t Jesus begin preaching at eighteen or twenty-one?

He didn’t see his Father doing that.

Can we keep our eyes on Jesus as his disciples?

Can we live each day to please Jesus and obey him?

It is really not more complicated than that; however, we must learn to listen to his Spirit and live in unbroken fellowship with him if we are to be led by the Lord. Jesus called it ‘remaining in me’.

“Lord Jesus, you are my example of discipleship. Lead me today, for your glory.”
