Spiritually Alert
Romans 13-16
“’…The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed…So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Romans 13:11, 12, 14
Our spiritual armor in the battle against sin, temptations of all kinds, and the life of self is the Lord Jesus. The armor of light and the clothing of Christ are the same. Christ is our salvation (helmet), and our righteousness (breastplate). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (belt). Jesus is our peace and the Gospel we share (sandals). Our faith is in Christ (shield), and he is the Word of God (sword). To remain mentally and spiritually alert, we are called to fix our eyes on Christ through worship and prayer throughout the day – while we work, drive, relax, and study. When temptation comes - and it will - immediately begin to worship Jesus. Light always overcomes darkness.
When have we fallen into slumber in our discipleship journey?
It’s time to wake up!
“Lord Jesus, my eyes are on you and your Spirit is praying and worshipping in and through me today, for your glory.”
