Our Head
Ephesians 1-4
“And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way…For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 1:22, 23; 2:10
Jesus is now head of the Church, his body. He is not a figurehead, but the living head. Without our head, our bodies would not function. The head, like a computer, manages all the bodies’ systems. The head responds to danger, makes decisions and pursues love. The head is intrinsically involved in every part of our body.
If Christ is our head, how should that influence how the body of Christ functions?
Our best contributions, the good works which Christ has prepared for us to do, require us to live in dependence and faith in him. Our primary responsibility is to live in unbroken fellowship with Christ, so he can live through us. We can rest from our labors and yield our self-will, ambition, and kingdom-building plans to Christ. He is our head. Listen and obey; there is no better way to be fruitful in Jesus.
What is the Lord inviting us to surrender to him today?
Will we receive his counsel, direction, resources, and life this day?
“Lord Jesus, live through me, for your glory.
