Our Source

 Genesis 15-17; Luke 6

“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your very great reward.’”

Genesis 15:1

Abram’s decision to not profit personally from the plunder of a victory God had given him, seemed to be a test of his security in God. Only after Abram stated he would accept “nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal” (Genesis 14:23), did God reaffirm he was Abram’s shield and very great reward.

What tests related to our security or provision have we endured?

How have we been able to testify to God’s promises in our lives?

When we rely only on ourselves and our capacity to work and earn wealth, we ignore that our very breath comes from God. God promises to be our shield and very great reward as we, too, fully place our faith in him. Fear is the enemy of faith.

In what ways has fear controlled our finances, our friendship, or our future?

Abram testified to the surrounding leaders that God was his source. Like Abram, we can do the same through the tests in our lives.

“Lord Jesus, you are my source, my shield, and my very great reward, for your glory.”
