God’s Call

 Genesis 12-14; Luke 5

“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.’”

Genesis 12:1

“…Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.’ So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him…Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.”

Luke 5:10, 11, 27, 28

Does God still call people to serve him in the same way he called Abram, Peter, James, John, and Levi?

Abram’s call was to leave his country, culture, and family to go to Canaan. On the journey to Canaan, his family had settled in Haran, about half way there.

Have we, too, settled on the way toward the call of God on our lives?

Peter, James, John, and Levi (Matthew) all responded to Christ’s invitation to follow him, by leaving their jobs and beginning a season of apprenticeship with Jesus.

Does God still call people today to leave what they are doing to be apprenticed by Jesus in the mission of sharing and giving the gospel?

In what ways would we expect to receive that kind of invitation from God?

What would our response be?

“Lord Jesus, my answer is, Yes. I am willing to follow you wherever you lead, regardless the cost, for your glory.”
