Towers That Will Fall

 Genesis 9-11; Luke 4

“…’Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.’”

Genesis 11:4

“The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, ‘I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.’ Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”

Luke 4:5-8

The pride of man leads him to build towers and make a name for himself. We refer to this in business as a good “brand strategy”. The devil claimed he controlled the authority and splendor of all this world’s kingdoms and towers, because humankind had given their authority to him. Jesus resisted this temptation by reminding the devil that only God is worthy of our worship and service. Only God can give us our identity and value. Ministry kingdoms can also build towers and structures to our pride and glory. Our response must be repentance and worship of God alone. Our daily prayer must be, “Father, I humble myself before you.”

“Lord God, you alone are worthy of worship and service, for your glory.”
