The Only God, Our Savior
Isaiah 4,5; Psalms 115,116; Jude
“to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen”
Jude 25
This soaring doxology focuses on the eternal, unchanging qualities of Jesus Christ our Lord. We join with Christ’s disciples and Christians through the ages in ascribing glory, majesty, power, and authority both to Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ to God the Father. The call to purity, humility, and love in the Church, which precedes this doxology, is only possible when we lift up Jesus Christ in our midst. Our free will can be exercised in rebellion, self-indulgence, and pride, or, in knowing and following Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can deliver on an offer of eternal life. Eternal life is found in Jesus, the only God and Savior.
Today, are we focused on him, or on ourselves?
“Lord Jesus Christ, you alone are worthy of my worship, honor, and praise this day, for your glory.”
