Forgiven Much

Genesis 18-19; Psalms 3; Luke 7

“’Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?’”

Luke 7:41, 42

In this short parable, Jesus gave the heart of the Gospel. We all owe God a debt for our sin beyond our capacity to repay him. God, in his mercy, has extended forgiveness to us, in Christ, and paid our sin-debt. Our grateful response to this forgiveness is one of the ways we love God. Our awareness of how much we have been forgiven is in itself a work of God’s grace in our lives.

Which person in the story do we identify with most?

How does our awareness of our sin-debt to God influence our love for him?

Is there a difference in the sin-debt of those born in Christian families versus those who are raised in families without the knowledge of the Gospel?

“Lord Jesus, you have delivered me from death and my love is for you, for your glory.”
