The Wind of God
Genesis 15-17; Luke 6
“No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful…”
Genesis 17:5, 6
God changed Abram’s name to Abraham. The difference is the addition of “ha”, the sound we make when breathing out. God’s anointing on Abraham was the “ruach” of his Spirit as he breathed new life into a man whose capacity to reproduce was as good as dead. God’s promise to Abraham was that he be ‘fruitful and multiply’. We, too, have that promise, but it will only be fulfilled if we, too, receive the fullness of God’s ruach, or wind. It was the wind of the Spirit that blew through the Upper Room at Pentecost, filling those 120 seekers. The immediate fruit was boldness to proclaim the Gospel, and multiplication resulted. If we, too, desire to be fruitful and multiply, we, too, can invite the wind of God to fill us and empower us to live on mission with Jesus. We might even find that the Lord changes our name!
“Lord Jesus, blow your life-giving wind through my life and fill me with your Spirit again this day; multiply your life in others, for your glory.”
