Jesus First

Genesis 20-22; Luke 8

“Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of a synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.”

Luke 8:41-44

Both Jairus and the woman subject to bleeding came to Jesus as their last hope. In both stories they found from Jesus the healing they were looking for. In our western society with innovative medicines, advanced health care, and complex surgeries, we still trust the Health Care system as our first response, and Jesus as our last hope.

What would change if, in all situations, we turned to Jesus as our first hope?

Where the Church is living with a “Jesus first” approach, people are seeing faith-building answers to prayer. We, too, need to live this gospel each day.

“”Lord Jesus, you are my healing, forgiveness, freedom, wisdom, value, and future, for your glory.”
