Marketplace Ministry
2 Samuel 7; 1 Chronicles 17; Psalms 2; Matthew 20
“’About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, “You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.” So they went.’”
Matthew 20:3-5
There are many still today standing in the marketplace doing nothing for the King. Our efforts to pay the bills, provide for our family, and advance in our careers, might not be connected to the work of the King. When we see ourselves as working for the King, we view the marketplace and the vineyard differently. Our work is our worship; people are valued, and our pay is eternal reward. Work in the kingdom of God is much more than volunteering “at church” or even vocational ministry. When we view the culture of the kingdom of heaven bringing transformation to every area of society, there is no reason why anyone should be “standing in the marketplace doing nothing”. Marketplace ministry is a mindset which transforms our work into a vocation and assignment from the King.
“Lord God, open my eyes to see my life and the potential for kingdom-impact through your eyes, for your glory.”
