Death to Life

Ecclesiastes 1-3; Psalms 45; Ephesians 2

“As  for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air,…All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts…”

Ephesians 2:1-3

Acknowledging that we are dead, spiritually dead apart from Christ, is essential to experience the gospel. Jesus didn’t come to give us a spiritual makeover or tune up. He came to bring life to the dead! Living for sin and in sin is normal for those who are spiritually dead. It’s normal to follow the ways of the world and gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature. This is our condition without Christ. What is not normal is to experience the radical, transforming deliverance of Christ in our lives, from spiritual bondage to freedom, from death to life! Jesus didn’t come to make good people better; he came to bring life to the dead.

Have we acknowledged our desperate need for Jesus, his grace, love, and mercy?

“Lord Jesus, apart from you I am dead. You are my life, for your glory.”
